What is an Import Export Code?

Import Export Code is a 10 digit alpha numeric code issued to persons importing or exporting goods or services from India. This Code is issued in electronic form by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) under the Ministry of Commerce, Government of India.

Generating IEC code is an online process with one time registration and permanent validity.

IEC Code Exemption
The following categories of persons are exempted from obtaining IEC Code:

  • Department/ Ministeries of Central or State Goververment
  • Persons importing or exporting goods for personal use

Documents Required for Import Export Code

  1. PAN Card of the Applicant
  2. Address Proof (Electricity Bill; Rent Agreement if rented premise)
  3. Cancelled Cheque
  4. E-Mail ID and Phone Number of the Applicant
  5. Certificate of Registration, in case the applicant is a Company or LLP
