What is Import Export Code (IEC)?

Import Export Code (IEC) is a mandatory business identification number required for exporting from or importing to India. Issued by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT), the IEC is essential for businesses engaged in international trade. Without IEC, businesses cannot process shipments or receive payments from foreign clients. The IEC is a one-time registration and remains valid for a lifetime.

Process of IEC Registration

  • PAN Card of the business or proprietor (for sole proprietorship)
  • Aadhaar Card, Passport, or Voter ID of the applicant
  • Business Registration Proof, such as Certificate of Incorporation, Partnership Deed, or GST Registration
  • Bank Account Details, including a canceled cheque or bank statement
  • Address Proof of the business premises (utility bill, rent agreement, etc.)
  • Digital Signature Certificate (DSC) for authentication (optional but recommended)
